Goal #1: Achieve a greater sense of place and connect further with my bioregion
Activities:
- Incorporate my interest in wildlife science, art, photography, and writing to make a comprehensive map of my family’s 36-acre woodlot.
- Walk woodlot and collect data for map; photographs, drawings, journal entries, observations.
- Actively manage woodlot, incorporate permaculture (sustainable land use) techniques around the house; creating stable, productive systems that provide for human needs while harmoniously integrating the land with its inhabitants.
Goal #2: Understand the importance of vernal pools and wetlands and the creatures that depend upon them.
Activities:
- Work with David Carroll on nature observation and illustration.
- Observe vernal pools and inhabitants, collect plants for identification and illustration.
- Create drawings, paintings, photographs, and journal entries to enhance project.
Goal #3: Create a journal that will include observations, drawings, paintings, photographs to enhance my comprehensive examination of our woodlot and make a map detailing important land features, tree stands, plants, animals, trails, and landmarks.
Activities:
- Walk woodlot each day and collect data for map; photograph, drawings, journal entries, observations.
- Walk woodlot periodically with David Carroll to understand the work of a naturalist and gain necessary knowledge of native species, geologic history, map making, and management planning.
- Incorporate interest in wildlife science, art, photography, and writing to make a comprehensive map of my family’s 36-acre woodlot.
